How a Mobile App Recovers Carts a Website Never Will

Push notifications, saved payment methods and one-tap reorder turn abandoned carts into repeat revenue. Here is the playbook we ship for retail brands.

Roughly seven out of ten mobile web carts are abandoned. On the web your only recovery channel is email, and email competes with everything else in the inbox. Inside an app you own a direct, permissioned channel to the customer's lock screen — and that changes the economics of every cart.

The pattern we build starts with persistence: the cart lives server-side and is tied to an authenticated customer, so it survives app closes, device switches and network drops. A shopper who added a pair of shoes on the train sees the same cart at home, with the size and colour intact.

Next comes timing. We instrument abandonment as an event, not a page exit, and trigger a first reminder within an hour while intent is warm. If that goes unanswered, a second nudge carries an incentive — free shipping before a discount, because margin matters more than volume.

Finally, we remove friction from the return path. The notification deep-links straight to checkout with Apple Pay or Google Pay pre-selected, so the recovered session is two taps, not a re-login and a re-entered card.

What to take away

  • Persist carts server-side against the customer, not the device
  • Trigger recovery on an abandonment event, not a session timeout
  • Deep-link notifications straight into a wallet-ready checkout
